Abstract
The Ketocal medical food was tested for tolerability and applicability in the treatment of epilepsy, as an alternative to, or in conjunction with, a classical ketogenetic diet. We report on preliminary results from a 10 patient sample, including cases of epileptic encephalopathy and Lafora disease. In 9 of the patients, a larger-than-50% decrease was observed in the critical frequency, during the first month, a trend confirmed in 4 patients during the subsequent months. Alimentary (gain in weight), psychomotor and interactivity improvements were observed, along with merely secondary side effects.
