Abstract
The ultrastructural organization of Trichomonas tenax was demonstrated by an electron microscopy investigation performed on strains recently isolated from the dental plaque of different diseases of the periodontium. By supplementing morphological data with cytochemical investigations, we were able to demonstrate the presence of enzymatic functions related to ultrastructural surface differentiations, possibly representing intrinsic pathogenic mechanisms of the parasite.
