N2 - Indirect and double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay techniques were compared for serotyping 42 herpes simplex virus isolates. Both procedures gave similar results, which were in complete agreement with those obtained by inhibition of the indirect hemagglutination test. The indirect technique proved to be as specific as the double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, but simpler and cheaper.
