Abstract

We describe an 11-year-old girl with diabetes mellitus, alopecia areata and onychomycosis admitted to determine the etiology of her recurrent seizures. Her calcium-phosphorus metabolism data were diagnostic of hypoparathyroidism. The calcium-phosphorus balance was restored by calcitriol and calcium therapy. The association of diabetes mellitus, hypoparathyroidism, alopecia areata and onychomycosis suggested polyglandular autoimmune syndrome. The diagnostic and therapeutics problems of the follow-up are discussed.
