Abstract

The reticulo-endothelial system (RES) activity in normal and in intracerebral Sarcoma 180-bearing mice was investigated after acute or subchronic treatment with the non-ionic surface-active agent: Triton WR 1339 (TWR). While the single treatment is ineffective, the subchronic treatment markedly raises the phagocytic index not only in normal mice but also in tumor-bearing animals where the RES is depressed by the presence of disseminating cancer cells. A possible relation between the RES stimulatory capacity and the antimetastatic effect exerted by TWR is envisaged.
