Abstract

Status epilepticus (SE) is a medical emergency which can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. The results of many studies shows the importance of the Emergent EEG (Em/EEG) in diagnosis and management of the SE.Aim of our study is to analyse SE therapeutic management in that patients for wich a Em/EEG was required. In 56% of those patients a therapeutic management in accord with Guidelines of the Italian League Against Epilepsy was applied. Em/EEG was performed before to start an anti-epileptic therapy in 58%; in 13 of 52 patients SE diagnosis was denied nevertheless in 42% of those patients a anti epileptic drug was already begun. Our study confirm Em/EEG role in diagnosis of SE (particulary in Non Convulsive SE) and its value in a correct terapeutic management.
