Abstract
Confocal laser endomicroscopy is a recent technique which allows immediate microscopy during the ongoing endoscopy. With this technique, the diagnosis of neoplasia is possible with higer accuracy. Moreover, endomicroscopy offers the potential to image structure and function that cannot be seen in excised tissue (i.e. vascular flow). Furthemore, in vivo molecular imaging, combining endomicroscopy with targeted staining, gives hope for improved diagnosis and targeted therapies in gastrointestinal disorders.
