Abstract
We reviewed our surgical experience of renovascular repair. From October 1987 to December 1995, 14 patients were operated on for correction of renovascular disease. The group included 7 men and 7 women, with blood pressure ranging between 230/120 and 140/90 mmHg (mean 205/113). 9 patients had evidence of renal insufficiency, 1 was dependent on dialysis. Operative management included: 10 aortorenal bypass, 1 thoracic aortorenal bypass, 3 splenorenal bypasses. There were no operative deaths. Hypertension was considered cured in 2 patients and improved in 4. Renal function response was positive in 7 patients. 2 postoperative deaths occurred during follow-up. In summary, our experience with the surgical management of renovascular disease suggests that most patients have a beneficial outcome from renal revascularization.
