Abstract
The study of monoclonal components is a very thorny and complex subject from both analytical and clinical points of view. In this paper we propose a rationale for the laboratory investigation of monoclonal components, with indications of the best current routine laboratory methods. Furthermore the possible clinical relevance of the detection and characterization of monoclonal components is illustrated.
