Abstract
The authors report their experience with Rifampicin's tolerance in paediatrics. Rifampicin (RAMP) has been employed either as an antitubercular or as an antibacterial drug, when suggested by disc sensitivity test. Three hundred and eighty-one patients were treated with RAMP alone, 198 with isoniazid (INH) alone and 177 with RAMP + INH. In all patients presenting some alterations in liver functions, liver needle biopsy was performed to verify and quantify liver damage. On the basis of their experience and in accordance with other research, the authors conclude that RAMP alone does not present hepatic problems in paediatrics and that liver damage may appear only when the drug is used in association with INH.
