Abstract

Few data are reported in the literature about scalp skin sensitivity. A short questionnaire was therefore prepared, part of which addressed the opinions about causes, signs and symptoms of sensitivity referred to the scalp area. The results from using this questionnaire in our geographycal area in 300 subjects were examined. 54% of the subjects in this study believes it possesses the characteristics of scalp sensitivity. Itch, dandruff, and reddening are the most reported symptoms. Unsuitable shampoos and setting lotions (hair spray and hair gel) are among the most frequent causing factors. Furthermore hair dyes, coloured shampoos and permanent waves, according to our sample, have been regarded as the cause of scalp skin dryness.
