Abstract
In this study we compared psychological profile of patients with and without arrhythmic events after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). One hundred and eight patients, who underwent psychological assessment in addition to a standard risk stratification protocol comprise the study group. At a mean follow-up of 26 ± 14 months, 6 patients (5%) had a late arrhythmic event. Results showed that high scores on psychological measures may be present in patients who developed a malignant arrhythmia after AMI, and this may provide a significant contribution to arrhythmogenesis independent of several predictors of disease severity.
