Abstract

A multicentre, randomized study was carried out to compare the efficacy of prophylactic intravesical Mitomycin C vs Interferon, in terms of recurrences and progression, in superficial bladder tumours. After complete TURB, 287 patients with Ta-G2 and T1-G1/G2 were randomized to receive IFN 50 M IU or MMC 40 mg both diluted in 50 ml of 0.9% NaCl, once a week for 8 weeks. After a mean follow-up of 24 months (6-29), 34 local relapses (24.1%) occurred in the arm with MMC and 45 (30.8%) in the amr with IFN. No significant differences were found.
