Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of lacosamide (LCM) on the background activity utilizing computer analysis of EEG in patients with brain tumorrelated epilepsy (BTRE). We studied six patients suffering from brain tumors with uncontrolled seizures despite therapy with AEDs in therapeutic range. Before treatment with LCM and after 2 months, the patients underwent 21-channel EEG recordings, at rest with eyes closed and during attentive tasks. Then we selected 20 epochs after visual elimination of artefacts. Each epoch was investigated by quantitative analysis by the Fast Fourier Transform for each electrode and for each frequency band. Relative power data obtained before LCM were compared with those after 2 months of LCM therapy. Descriptive statistic for all variables of interest was performed: Wilcoxon test for paired samples to compare means at different times was used. Preliminary results show no differences in relative power for all frequency bands before and after 2 months of treatment with LCM, both at rerst and during attentive tesks.
