Abstract

Psychopathological features in the course of ischaemic cerebrovascular disease is a new field of interest. These may appear at the onset of the attack in both presenile and senile depression. Psychiatric symptoms in other cases are clearly secundary to ischaemic symptoms in both the acute and chronic fases. They are, however, of clinical importance, even in this case, as they may influence the outcome of rehabilitation. A variety of recently marketed drugs, expecially antidepressant, offer important and interesting potential issues in the treatment of psychiatric disorders related to ischaemic cerebrovascular disease.
