Abstract

Proliferative diabetic retinopathy is characterized by growth of retinal or optic disk vascular proliferation leading to vitreous hemorrhage and scarring. Panretinal photocoagulation treatment is still considered the standard of care for the management of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The possible advantages related to intravitreal drugs including anti-VEGF and steroids require further studies over long-term follow-up.
