Abstract

After brief mention of the frequent renal complications in Hb S syndromes and having underlined how these are aggravated during pregnancy, 2 cases of heterozygosis for Hb S, observed in pregnant women with sickle cell anemia nephropathy, are reported. In both patients, pregnancy led to a marked worsening of symptomatology, one actually dying after childbirth. The hemoglobinopathic state had not been diagnosed previously. Stress is therefore laid on the need to screen for Hb S, particularly on the occasion of anemia with nephropathy in pregnancy.
