Abstract

The ISAC® microarray is an acronym for "Immuno Sorbent Allergo Chip" This test doses simultaneously, in a single analytical run, the presence of IgE to a panel of 103 respiratory and food allergens which cover almost all allergens of clinical interest, including those less frequent. Microarray has another advantage compared to traditional tests: it uses a single allergen component (native or recombinant), allowing the distinction between multiple positive reactions due to cross-reactivity from genuine multiple sensitivity due to several allergenic sources. It identifies and distinguishes IgE-mediated positivities to food allergens potentially related to severe systemic reactions from those usually associated with less severe symptoms.
