Abstract
Distinctive specialisation of lateral plasma membranes are recognized to join adjacent cells in small intestinal mucosa. Ultrastructural studies have demonstrated specific differences between tight, intermediate junction and desmosomes, respectively, in normal subjects. The authors' data shows morphologic alterations of various junctional complexes in cells from gluten-intolerant patients and normals, respectively.
