L'INSULINOPOIESI IN SINDROMI NEUROLOGICHE DIVERSE. STUDIO CON IL CARICO ORALE DI GLUCOSIO E CON IL TEST ALLA TOLBUTAMIDE

Oral glucose load and tolbutamide test reveal an hyperinsulinemic condition in haeredofamiliar syndromes of the central and peripheral N.S. to a lesser extent the finding occurs in abiotrophic degenerative and chronic nervous diseases having a different etiopathogenesis. Seldom is a reduced glucidic tolerance apparent; by contrast, an increased glucidic requirement is more often observed. Hyperinsulinemic findings both in haeredofamiliar diseases involving muscular atrophy and in those where the latter is absent suggest that this endocrine behaviour may be the result of the islet tissue adjusting to an increased requirement of insulin from muscular tissues, possibly linked with an increment in myosynthesis, or in any case with an increased metabolic activity of those muscular tissues.
