Abstract
The Ninth European Immunology Meeting is due to be held in Rome, Italy, on 13-17 September this year. In this invited article, commissioned to coincide with this congress, Lorenzo Moretta discusses the development of immunology in Italy since the 1960s, and in the accompanying double-page diagram on pages 248 and 249 summarizes the distribution of the major research groups and their areas of interest.
