Abstract

The aim of the present study is to investigate the role of HPVs in the skin cancerogenesis as far as non genital sites. DNA from 26 squamous-cell carcinomas and 25 basal-cell carcinomas was isolated and tested with a PCR method, using a couple of degenerate primers able to detect a wide spectrum of know HPVs. No HPV DNA was detected in the bioptic samples hereby considered. Our findings suggest that HPVs are not associated with the both types of cutaneous neoplasms in the non immunosuppressed population.
