Abstract

Between January 1987 and December 1991, the histology of the ureter of 40 patients affected by obstructive megaureter (12 cases, bilateral) and 19 patients with refluent megaureter (5 cases, bilateral), were studied. Patients were aged between 10 days and 7 years; 50% of patients were younger than 120 days. Histology of the proximal and distal parts of reflux and obstructive ureter, were studied. A 'better' histology was found in the proximal parts of the obstructive ureter with regression of lesions, while in the distal parts, the prevalence was fibrosis, both in the obstructive and reflux megaureter.
