Abstract
22 patients aged 16-22 years, with torsion of the spermatic cord, were studied during 5 years. The seminal condition, gonadotrophin, testosterone, humoral auto-antibody anti-spermatozoa, were evaluated. LH and testosterone were always regular; FSH, however, was pathologically high in 2 patients who underwent orchiectomy and in 4 patients with testis atrophia, without any connection with seminal changes, which were evidenced in 40% of patients, the more conspicuous of which were detected in 41% of patients with testis atrophia. This suggests an auto-immune mechanism, but antibodies detected by immunofluorescence and spermio-agglutinant agents were evidenced - even at high level - in fertile patients as well as in patients who underwent orchiectomy, and, therefore, most probably they are only an epi-phenomenon of a starting necrosis.
