Abstract

The paper reports 4 cases of patients submitted to surgery for posterior fossa tumors (2 acoustic neurinomas and 2 ponto-cerebellar angle meningiomas) in which epileptic attacks (2 generalized status epilepticus postoperatively, 1 generalized seizure and 1 partial seizure some months after operation) occurred in postoperative time. These cases represent the 5% of a consecutive series of 80 controlled posterior fossa tumors submitted to surgery. The possible role of bilateral frontal cortices damage (as showed CT scan and EEG findings) and of lowering cerebellar inibitory mechanisms over cerebral cortex in determining seizures is discussed.
