Abstract

The erosive lichen planus of the oral cavity is a chronic and difficult to treat disease. The efficacy of hydroxychloroquine sulphate was evaluated in 2 patients recalcitrant to topical therapy with bethametasone and cyclosporine. The drug, given at 400 mg/day for one month, followed by 200/day for three months, induced the marked improvement of the disease and healing of erosions after only 20 days from the beginning of the treatment. There were no side effects. Hydroxychloroquine sulphate may be considered among systemic drugs effective in the treatment of the erosive lichen planus of the oral cavity.
