Abstract
Many factors are implicated in the regulation of erythropoiesis; one such compound might be GH with the direct or indirect involvement of IGF-1 or of erythropoietin. This study examines the effects of GH on erythropoiesis in a series of eight adults with IGHD by assaying variations of values referred to a blood test before and after 6 months of treatment with rhGH at 0.4 IU/Kg/week. Results indicate a significant increase in RBC (p <0.04) and PLT (p <0.008) and a reduction in the values of MCV, MCH and MCHC. We conclude GH influences erythropoiesis even if the underlying mechanism is still unknown.
