Abstract

In 2 groups of 6 normal subjects each, the authors have investigated the effects of oral administration of a gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) derivative, baclofen [β-(4-chlorophenyl)-gamma aminobutyric acid, Lioresal, Ciba-Geigy] on growth hormone (GH) and prolactin (PRL) secretion in response to insulin hypoglycemia and arginine infusion, respectively. Administration of baclofen, 30 mg daily for 4 days, caused a significant reduction of GH response to hypoglycemia (mean peak values decreased from 30.7 ± 6.30 to 21.5 ± 5.74 ng/ml, P
