Abstract

We describe 87 cases (mean age 9.6 ± 2.8 years) selected on the basis of an EEG pattern of Benign Partial Idiopatic Epilepsy. In 44 cases the clinical pictures was typical of Benign Epilepsy with Centro-Temporal Spikes (BECT); in the remaining 43 patients the EEG pattern was unexpected. In 40 cases (45.9%) the EEG anomalies showed differences of localization, amplitude and/or diffusion, in comparison with typical EEG pattern. From the analysis of the follow-up of 73 patients, the 'atypical EEG pattern' was not related to a worse clinical outcome and there were non differences between patients with typical Benign Idiopatic Epilepsy and those with lesions of the CNS.
