Abstract

Variations in the pattern of urinary acid excretion were measured in 6 recipients of cadaver kidney transplants, during 'minor' rejection episodes. The findings showed a significant decrease of renal ammonium, titratable acid and total net hydrogen ion excretion, both in absolute and per nephron, whilst no significant variations were observed in the absolute values of creatinine clearance, blood pH and blood Cl -. In cases of rejection episodes whose conventional symptoms do not provide definite indications for correct diagnosis, the pattern of urinary acid excretion may provide useful information.
