Abstract
Impaction of maxillary and mandibular permanent canines is a delicate matter for both its functional and aesthetic implications. It requires the collaboration of oral surgeon with the orthodontist, who bears the most responsibility; their cooperation should lead to the optimal treatment option allowing the most stable and favourable outcome. Maxillary canines have the longest period and the deepest site of development as well as the most difficult path of eruption of all teeth. Their normal age of eruption is between 11 and 12 years. Other than the third molar, maxillary canines are the teeth most likely to remain unerupted or impacted, Impaction of maxillary canine is common both in female and in males. Prevalence of maxillary canine impaction is significantly higher than that of mandibular canines (20 to 1).
