Abstract
The Authors considered 12 patients submitted to surgery of different durations and took their colloid-osmotic pressure (COP) by Weil's oncometer at different times. With regard to the standard conditions, a statistically significant COP decrease at 16th (24.3%) and 24th (18%) hour is reported. The correlation between surgical stress and COP decrease is significant, too. Pathogenesis and therapy are discussed with emphasis to direct COP monitoring in high risk surgical patients.
