Abstract
Concerning the exercise challenge in the assessment of exercise induced asthma (EIA), there is some uniformity in the techniques and free running is the more used test. Nevertheless, we think that a correct evaluation of different forms of exercise available is not carried out. Therefore we have examined 13 subjects (average age 18 yr, SD 7.28) with bronchial asthma and positive anamnesis for EIA. They were submitted, according to a random cross-over work scheme, to the following 4 tests: free running, walking on treadmill, cycling on cycle ergometer and stair climbing. The results show that the exercise challenge carried out walking on treadmill is not suitable in the EIA assessment. The other tests seem to be effective for this purpose; free running having induced the more significant functional changes.
