Abstract
An isotopic dilution approach for 1,3-butadiene analysis in gaseous samples was presented. It was based on active sampling on sorbent tubes, and their subsequent thermal desorption/GC based analytical system. The method was used to monitor 1,3-butadiene ambient air concentration in a resident area over 1 wk period. It was also used to determine exhaust emission of two different vehicles by standard emission testing procedures. Ambient air results showed an average weekly concentration of 1,3-butadiene of 0.53 mg/cu m. Exhaust gas emissions were 0.052 mg/km for diesel engine and 35.8 mg/km for gasoline engine.
