Abstract
The authors treated 20 patients with chronic obstructive lung diseases, 5 with asthmatic bronchitis and 8 with bronchial asthma, all of them in rather severe conditions, with triamcinolone acetonide i.m. (80 and 40 as inoculum every 20 days), in addition to treatments with antibiotic, bronchiolytic and mucolytic drugs. On the average, the length of treatment was 77 days. Favorable effects were observed in all cases. The results indicate that the corticosteroid used may be of determining aid for the relief and/or recovery of obstructive pulmonary diseases, especially in the forms with marked bronchial spasm. In all cases the tolerability was excellent, except in three cases which showed slight hyperglycemia controlled by oral hypoglycemic drugs.
